Questions we get asked
Being pre-launch changes what a partner is signing up for, so these are the answers we give most often to donors, embassies, municipalities and offtakers.
AfriloopX is in its foundation phase. The operating model, fair-pay structure and community relationships are being built, and the first community collection hub is in development — it is not yet operational. We publish this openly so partners can judge us on where we actually are.
The pilot follows a linear sequence: desk research on municipal waste volumes, stakeholder engagement with local leaders and women's groups, partnership development, hub design, implementation, measurement, and only then scaling. Each step has to be evidenced before the next one starts.
Collectors are paid per kilogram against a published price, recorded per transaction so every payment is traceable. Fair pay, safety equipment and women in leadership positions are part of the hub design rather than something added later.
Founding partners shape the pilot: co-funding the first hub, providing offtake for recovered PET and HDPE, supplying community delivery capacity, or contributing traceability and measurement tooling. Early involvement means influence over how the model is proven.
Once the hub is live we report collected tonnage by polymer, number of registered collectors, payments made and the share of leadership roles held by women — the same figures partners need for their own environmental and social reporting.
